Dan Grading
Congratulations to all the candidates at the National Karate Association black belt grading. The grading took place in Castlemilk, Glasgow on 29th November 2010. There was a clean sheet with all four Karate-ka passing their individual gradings.
Grant Wyper – Yondan (4th Dan)
Gail Comerford – Nidan (2nd Dan)
Stephen Doolan – Shodan (1st Dan)
Aidan Feeney – Shodan (1st Dan)
There was a good community atmosphere before and after the grading and thanks to all the fellow students, friends and family that attended.
WUKO President Carlo Henke passes away

It’s with deep sadness and sorrow that Shihan Carlo Henke, 8th Dan, President of WUKO and FESIK, passed away this morning 13th September 2010 at the age of 73 because of an incurable disease. The NKA express the condolences to his family. It is a great loss for the whole karate world. For those of us that were lucky enough to know him as a friend, his legacy will live on.
Yondan Promotion
Chief instructor of Jissen Shotokan Karate, Graeme Wright, has been promoted to Yondan. Graeme was presented prior to an NKA course on June 6th, 2010. Since taking over as chief instructor of Jissen Karate, Graeme has injected a new lease of life into the Jissen Karate-ka and his enthusiasm and knowledge has not just been of benefit to Jissen students, but the NKA as a whole. Graeme’s grade has been ratified by WUKO by the President and Honourary President, Carlo Henke and Eiji Ogasahara.
Congratulations to Graeme on his promotion.
Facebook Group
NKA Scotland members are encouraged to join the recently set up Facebook Group. It is a forum set-up by Scottish WUKO Karate-ka. The idea is that members can discuss ideas and share Karate related media. This group is open to anyone regardless of affiliation and is set-up purely to promote Karate of all styles and backgrounds.

WUKO World Cup 2010
A squad from Siu Loong Karate club flew out to compete in the WUKO World Cup in Nice, France on Friday 9th April. The squad sent to represent Siu Loong was as follows:

David Woods – Male Kata/Kumite
Julie McGavigan – Female Kumite

Committee Appointments
The NKA Directing Committee would like to congratulate Alan Small on his appointment to the board as a Technical Director of Kumite and Alan Blackbourn as a Technical Director of Kata after they were voted in. Their enthusiasm and spirit is welcomed to the Committee.
WUKO World Karate Championships for Clubs 2010

The WUKO World Karate Championships for Clubs 2010 will be hosted in Nice, France. This championship is the first of its kind for WUKO and will take place from 09-11th April 2010.
